At least 36 people died and 19 were injured, after a bus plunged into a gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Six of the injured are in serious condition.
The bus, going from Kishtwar to Jammu, skidded off the road and rolled down into a 300 feet gorge near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar national highway. The injured are being shifted to Government Medical Colleges in Doda and in Jammu.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the demise of people in
the accident. They expressed condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones and also prayed for the injured to recover at the earliest. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Ministers Dr. Jitendra Singh and Anurag Singh Thakur have also expressed grief over the incident.
The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees from the PM's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each of the deceased and 50,000 to each of those injured in the accident.
