In Jammu & Kashmir, the five killed terrorists in an encounter in the Kader Behibagh area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district have been identified as members of the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). Two security personnel were also wounded during the encounter and have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Brigadier Anirudh Chauhan, Commander of 02 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, and DIG South Kashmir Javid Iqbal Mattoo at joint presser at Qazigund Camp said that this was a big success for the security forces and J&K Police against terror outfits.
One among the slain terrorists was identified as Commander Farooq Ahmad Bhat. Security sources said that
Commander Farooq is considered to be one among the longest-surviving terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir. All the five terrorists were residents of different areas of the Kulgam district.
A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. This includes 05 AK-47 rifles, 20 magazines, 02 hand grenades, and other ammunition.
Earlier, the cordon and search operation was launched in the area last night on the basis of specific input about the presence of terrorists. The joint forces approached the suspected spot in Kader village, and the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately, triggering a fierce gunfight.
