Over 6,000 dancers from 18 countries performed Kuchipudi dance and set a new Guinness record in Vijayawada on Sunday at the fifth edition of the International Kuchipudi Dance Convention.
Representative of Guinness Book of World Records Rishinath recognised the record.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Silicon Andhra founder Kuchbhotla Anand were present.Earlier, Naidu said the government has allocated Rs 100 cr for the development of the art form and the village Kuchipudi. “I want every
family in the state to have a computer and a person who knows Kuchipudi dance,” the chief minister said.
He said that all government schools will have Kuchipudi dance teachers soon. In December 2012, Silicon Andhra and the then combined Andhra Pradesh state had jointly organised a similar event in which 5,974 Kuchipudi dancers performed ‘Mahabrinda Natyam’.
The event also found its way into the Guinness Book of World Records.Kuchipudi, the 600-year-old dance form, originated in Krishna district of the state.
