Sixth session of the 15th Kerala Assembly begins today exclusively for law-making. The 10- day special session has been scheduled  to bring in fresh Bills to replace Ordinances that have lapsed after the Governor declined to give his consent for their promulgation.

The 11 Ordinances that expired  include the Kerala Lok Ayukt (Amendment) Ordinance, that invited severe criticism from the opposition UDF and other quarters, the

Kerala Maritime Board (Amendment)  Ordinance whose constitutional  validity has been challenged and the  Kerala Public Health Ordinance.

Speaker M.B. Rajesh said that the Assembly is being convened to tide over an 'extraordinary situation' where the Ordinances could not be re-promulgated before their expiry date. The special session will end on the 2nd of next month.
