Seven persons including three policemen and two Fire & Emergency Service men died, as a snow avalanche struck police Post building at Jawahar Tunnel tube on Kashmir side of Srinagar Jammu national highway, Friday evening.
Three police personnel were rescued alive while another policeman is still missing from the spot.
Official sources said the joint rescue team of Army, Police, CRPF & SDRF will today continue to trace out the missing Selection Grade Constable Parvaiz Ahmad.
Security sources said that two prisoners, one each from Udhampur Jammu & Gurdaspur Punjab, arrested in narcotic smuggling case, are among dead in the snow avalanche incident. The rescued personnel are recuperating in the
hospital.
Meanwhile, a high level avalanche warning has been issued by Snow & Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) Chandigarh for the higher reaches of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts for today.
Officials said a medium level warning has also been issued for Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam and Kargil districts while low level warning issued for Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur and Leh districts.
The divisional administration Kashmir has put in place all precautionary, rescue and relief plans wherever required in view of any eventuality arising out of weather related eventuality in Kashmir region.
