The government yesterday said, a total of 711 Letters of Intent, LoIs have been issued for setting up of Community Radio Stations, CRSs in the country till the end of last month.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar informed this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said, 415 LoIs have been issued to Non-Governmental Organizations, 163 to educational institutions, 121 to government institutions and 12 to others.
Mr Javadekar said, 273 Community Radio Stations are operational in
the country till 31 October this year.
The Minister said, as per policy guidelines for setting up of Community Radio Station in the country, the permission holder, after receipt of all clearances and signing of the grant of permission agreement shall set up the Community Radio Station within three months.
Mr Javadekar also said, in accordance with the relevant provisions of policy guidelines, 101 LoIs have been cancelled by the ministry so far.
