In Uttar Pradesh, a total of 795 candidates were found eligible after the scrutiny of papers for the second phase of elections. State chief electoral officer T Venkatesh said that a total of 896 candidates had filed their papers for 67 seats of second phase. But after scrutiny on January 30, a total of 101 nominations were found wanting therefore cancelled. The last date for candidature withdrawal for second phase is 1st February.
Chief Eelectoral Officer said that in the
second phase, the highest number of candidates-22 is from Badhapur seat of Bijnore while lowest number 5 is from Dhanora reserved seat of Amroha. For 3rd phase, today is the last date of filing nomination for 69 seats for which a total of 518 candidates had filed their papers till 30th January. Several prominent leaders of BJP, BSP, Samajwadi Party Congress and RLD filed their papers yesterday in Lucknow while some more are slated to do it on the last day today.
