Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport made a world record of handling 969 flights in 24-hours, for single-runway operations, On Saturday. 

They further aim to reach 1,000 aircraft movements in the near future, media reports said.

The record was achieved between 5.30 am on Friday and 5.30 am on Saturday, media reports said.

Mumbai airport has two runways, the airport only operates one runway at a time since they cross each other, putting it in the single-runway category with London's Gatwick and Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport. 

Reports state that Mumbai operates over 900 airlines per day and handles around 46 take-offs and departures on an hour, making it one of the busiest airports in the world.
