Surat: The 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebration at Surat created history with 1.50 lakh citizens practising Yoga simultaneously to set a new Guinness Book of World Record. The representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records officially declared Surat's accomplishment and presented the Chief Minister with a record certificate. The residents of Surat voluntarily came together and participated in the yoga programme and set a Guinness World Record. 
The Yoga programme was organised across a stretch of 12.5 km.
 
Acknowledging the effective measures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister highlighted the immense popularity of Yoga Vidya worldwide, which has brought great honour to the country. He emphasised that Yoga, being an integral part of the country’s health heritage, has garnered widespread global recognition.
 
To foster the practice of yoga within the State, the government has established a dedicated Yoga Board. This notable initiative has not only generated employment opportunities for 5,000 individuals but has also paved the way for the construction of 51 new yoga studios across the State, thus strengthening these commendable efforts.
 
The Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasised the profound impact of India's heritage, which has strengthened the essence of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family) on a global scale. He credited the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister for the success. He shed light on realising the significance of health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said, our ancestors have passed on a special gift in the form of ‘Yoga Vidya’ which



today has emerged as a cornerstone for leading a healthy life worldwide.  

He emphasised the positive approach taken by the government under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in providing vaccines to other nations. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Prime Minister in safeguarding the well-being of the citizens by facing the COVID-19 pandemic with unwavering patience, determination, and resilience.
 
Minister for Home, Youth Services, and Culture Activities  Harsh Sanghavi stated that yoga is an ancient system encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions. He further said, “the celebration of International Day of Yoga with the active participation of people worldwide is a proud moment for us. 

The record-breaking gathering of people in Surat, starting early in the morning, showcased the nature of Surat's residents to wake up and be prepared, which is commendable. It highlighted the spirit of Surat's residents and their commitment to yoga.” 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his greetings to the nation on International Day of Yoga through a virtual address from America. The national-level programme organised by the Vice President in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, was attended by dignitaries and watched by the audience.
 
As part of the celebration, a book titled 'Yoga,' highlighting the significance and history of yoga, was released by the Chief Minister. Furthermore, awards were presented to individuals for their contributions to the field of yoga.
