Aadhaar cards mandatory for senior citizens to avail concessions on train ticket

From 1st of April next year, reservation of rail tickets for senior citizens will be directly linked to Aadhaar or Unique Identification cards on a mandatory basis for availing concessions at both counter and e-tickets. However, such a requirement will be optional from next month till March.

Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), AK Manocha said, it is a salutary measure designed to streamline the reservation process for people in such a category. He said, it is a most ambitious push to Aadhaar-based ecosystem in Indian Railways network that would end fraudulent bookings and curb cases of impersonation.
