The government has made it mandatory to mention unique identification number or Aadhaar number in the birth and death certificates to be issued by hospitals in the State.
The decision has been taken on the suggestion of the population register authority of India. The Aadhaar number of parents of new born baby and the UID of the deceased and his heirs should be mentioned in the birth and death certificates respectively. The director of Public Health and Family Welfare of Telangana has informed the State government that the Deputy Registrar General Office of the Union government has come up with Civil Registration System Software to link the Civil Registration System (CRS) with the National Population Register (NPR) to achieve linkage between the two and unique identification number (UID) being the person’s authentication information need to be collected in birth and death
reporting forms.
The unique identification number of parents in case of birth and stillbirth, deceased, parents of the deceased and spouse (if the deceased is married) need to be filled with birth and death reporting forms. The Aadhaar number being collected would be used for linking birth and death events occurring in a family in the NPR database through the Civil Registration System software and a provision for recording UID has been made in the software.
The deputy registrar general has requested to revise the birth, death and stillbirth reporting forms and include a column of UID number of father and mother (parents) in these forms. In addition, the Aadhaar number of the deceased and spouse should also be collected on death reporting form. He has further requested to initiate the action to amend the relevant rule and ensure the inclusion of a column in the form.
