New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party's Shelly Oberoi won the Delhi Mayor elections. She defeated Rekha Gupta, nominated candidate of BJP. Shelly Oberoi received 150 vote while Rekha Gupta got 116 seats. Shelly Oberoi became the city's first woman mayor in 10 years.

The election held after the Supreme Court ruled out the possibility of nominated members participating in the voting process.



Both AAP and BJP sparred over the rights of nominated members to vote in the election after the result was announced in December.  Earlier, the civic body had previously made three attempts to hold the elections.
 
The AAP had bagged 134 seats and  BJP got 104 seats while Congress bagged nine seats in the  MCD polls.
