A day before Delhi votes in Phase 6 of the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday, the son of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate made a sensational claim that his father paid Rs 6 crore to Arvind Kejriwal.

The 'cash for ticket' claim against the party was made by the son of AAP West Delhi candidate Balbir Singh Jakhar.

"My father joined politics about three months ago, he had paid Arvind Kejriwal Rs 6 crore for a ticket, I have credible evidence that he had paid for this ticket," Balbir Singh Jakhar's son Uday told news agency on Saturday.

Balbir Singh's son claimed that his father joined the Aam Aadmi Party in January. "Why was my father who was not even part of the Anna Hazare movement given a ticket by the AAP?" Uday asked.

The AAP candidate's son alleged that his father was given a ticket from West Delhi after he agreed to pay Rs 6 crore to Arvind Kejriwal and Gopal Rai. "The payment was made to Arvind Kejriwal," Balbir Singh's son claimed.

The AAP candidate’s son claimed that his father even tried to bail out former Congress leader and 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Sajjan Kumar.

He added that he took it upon himself to expose the truth of Balbir Singh and AAP after his father refused to pay for his education. "When I asked for

assistance for education, my father told me that he had to use the money for his political benefits," Uday said.

Balbir Singh Jakhar has, however, denied the allegations, saying that his son, Uday Jakhar, never lived with him and "have never discussed with my son anything about my candidature".

He said, "I condemn the allegations. I have never discussed with my son anything about my candidature. I speak to him very rarely. He stays at his maternal parents' home from the time of his birth and I divorced my wife in 2009. She stayed with me for only 6-7 months. His custody was granted to my wife after the divorce."

Meanwhile, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Praveen Khandelwal has urged Election Commission of India (ECI) to immediately order for a probe on allegations of Uday Jakhar that his father paid Rs 6 crore to Arvind Kejriwal & Gopal Rai for obtaining a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election from West Delhi seat.

"It’s a serious matter involving unaccounted money being used for elections and exposes Arvind Kejriwal and his team for taking a bribe in the election and to influence voters with illegal means," the BJP leader wrote in the letter to the EC.

All seven seats in Delhi head for polling in a single phase on May 12 in Phase 6.
