Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee will continue to serve as the party’s national general secretary. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the newly formed national working committee of the TMC on Friday.

There will be no change in Abhishek Banerjee's designation in the party. This comes amid reports of a growing rift between Abhishek Banerjee and his aunt and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Last week, Mamata Banerjee had dissolved the party's national office bearers' committee, which included her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and formed a 20-member working committee as rumours of dissent in the ranks

blew wide open. Asserting her firm control over the party, Banerjee packed the new working committee with party veterans but included Abhishek.

The TMC's national working committee was convened on Friday to decide on the mayors of the three municipal corporations -- Chandernagore, Bidhannagar and Asansol -- it won this week. Names for the new office bearers committee were also decided upon.

Besides Abhishek Banerjee, those who found place in the new TMC national working committee are Amit Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Subrata Bakshi, Sudip Bandopadhyay, Anubrata Mondal, Aroop Biswas, Firhad Hakim and Yashwant Sinha.
