In Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK has announced that the party general council and executive committee will meet on September 12 as part of the process to remove V K Sasikala from the post of general secretary.

Chief Minister EK Palaniswami, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and their supporters met at the party headquarters in Chennai yesterday. 

After the meeting they passed a resolution to hold the general council and executive



committee meeting to pave the way for the ouster of Sasikala and her nephew T T V Dhinakaran, who is the party's deputy general secretary. The MLAs supporting Dhinakaran were not invited.

The expulsion of Sasikala had been the main demand of the O Panneerselvam camp prior to the formal merger of the two factions on August 21. A release said, the meeting will be presided over by party presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan.
