Ahmedabad: Closure notices issued to 37 schools last week; most in eastern parts of city.
The fire department of the AMC on Tuesday issued closure notices to 214 schools for lack of fire safety. All these schools have been given a week's time to get the fire safety certificate.
Last week, AMC had issued similar notices to 37 schools.
Chief Fire Officer Rajesh Bhatt told Mirror, "We have been asking schools to opt for
fire NOC for some time now. But the school administrators are not serious about the issue and so we had to take the strict action. If schools lacking fire safety do not act, they will be sealed."
Of the 214 schools which have been issued closure notices, maximum 59 are in the eastern parts of the Ahmedabad while 49 are in the central zone and 32 in the north zone.
Schools in west, south, north-west and south-west zones have also been issued notices.
