BJP President Amit Shah will address a rally in Kolkata at 11 this morning. West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh has written Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the State Chief Secretary Malay De requesting them to ensure the safety and security of its party workers who will arrive in the city for Mr Shah's rally.
The ruling Trinamool Congress has announced protest rallies across the state, except in Kolkata, today against the complete draft of the National Register of
Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
State BJP vice-president Jay Prakash Majumdar said, the TMC has called its rallies to attack BJP cadres and stop them from reaching the rally venue. Mr Majumdar said, the TMC wants to instigate violence and ensure that untoward incidents take place. He said BJP has told the chief secretary that if any untoward incident takes place, the TMCand the state government will be held responsible for it.
