Union Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Bill seeks to replace the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Ordinance, 2023.
The Ordinance specifies that the Delhi Legislative Assembly will not have the power to legislate on ‘services’, expands the discretionary powers of the Lieutenant-Governor, and establishes the National Capital Civil Services Authority.
According to the revised list of business for Tuesday, Amit Shah will introduce the bill while his deputy Nityanand Rai
will make a statement on the reasons for bringing an "immediate legislation" by promulgating the ordinance.
The ordinance has become a rallying point for opposition parties against the BJP-led NDA.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the past couple of months had been visiting state after state and met heads of various opposition parties to garner support against Centre's ordinance.
During the Opposition's unity meeting also, Kejriwal put condition before the Congress that it will only join the alliance if the grand-old party would support its cause when the bill is tabled in the House.
