Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has declared 196 out of 670 mandals in the state as drought-affected due to the prolonged dry spell, reduction in yield and rainfall deficiency.
Mandals in Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam have been declared as drought-affected. The government has declared the mandals
as drought-hit not only based on district Collectors' reports but also based on the recommendations submitted by the Committee on Drought.
As per reports, the normal rainfall of the state is 549.1 mm from the South West monsoon, but it received just 519.7 mm, with the rain deficit being (-) 5.4 per cent.
