The re-polling in five centers in Andhra Pradesh has been declared by the Election Commission. One in Prakasam district and two centers each in Nellore and Guntur districts demanded re-polling.

Voters could not utilize their voting right in these polling centres because of technical difficulties in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) or due to violence, pointed out the reports acquired by the state chief electoral officer from the collectors of corresponding districts.

It may be stated that shocking violence took place during the current election,

which became a significant do-or-die encounter between the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the opposition YSR Congress. Similarly, EVMs also gave problems at many centres throughout the state. The polling was hindered by four to eight hours and continuously went on till beyond midnight on April 11.

CEO Gopalakrishna Dwivedi sent the recommendation to the Election Commission for conducting the polling again in the five centres, following the reports from the district collectors. The polling dates may be announced by the EC on Wednesday morning.
