Tirupati: Civil supplies minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao has announced that the ward and village volunteers’ honorarium will be enhanced to Rs 5,750 per month.

"This is a gift for the volunteers from Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on his birthday," the minister said while addressing the media in Tirumala after offering prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple.

Nageswara Rao said the government has decided to increase the honorarium given to ward and village volunteers by Rs 500 per month from January 1. Currently, volunteers are paid Rs 5000 a month.

The volunteers have been working hard for implementation of various

government schemes at the grassroots level. There are currently over 2.6 lakh village and ward volunteers in AP, the minister noted

Hitting out at the opposition, the minister said Telugu Desam party chief Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan have joined hands with an aim to dethrone the Jagan-led government. He condemned the criticism by Pawan Kalyan in Vizianagaram, saying, "Jagan has always respected his mother and sister."

"It was Chandrababu Naidu who back-stabbed his father-in-law to seize power. Pawan Kalyan has a dubious record of deceiving women he is married to," the minister stated.
