Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s inauguration of the Infosys Development Center and four pharmaceutical companies here on Monday assumes special significance.
These projects brought in an investment of Rs 1,371 crore and carries with them a capacity to create 2,950 jobs. Youths from the region would mainly benefit from this.
Infosys was the only Indian company that featured in the TIME magazine's 2023 list of the world’s 100 Best Companies. It ranked 64th. Infosys also won the Global Top Employer 2023 certification in 22 countries through Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
As part of its talent-hunt, Infosys would set up development centers closer to areas where talent is available. It constantly evaluates multiple Tier 1 and 2 locations having a well-developed educational ecosystem.
nfosys has been setting up delivery centers in Tier 2 cities like Mangalore, Mysore, Trivandrum, Nagpur, Indore, Jaipur, Hubli, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar and Coimbatore, apart from opening its units in Visakhapatnam.
The new development centre (DC) here can accommodate 1000 staff. Inspired by the sea waves here, the interior design of the Infosys Visakhapatnam is designed to be a future-ready hybrid workplace.
Employees here would work
on cutting-edge IT technologies and serve clients globally in multiple industry verticals, including financial services, energy and utility and retail, using technologies like Java, J2EE, SAP, data science, and data analytics.
A significant portion of the Infosys employees working here will be from the city and its vicinity, a company official said.
The launch of this project will have a direct impact on industrial growth in AP, especially here. This solidifies Visakhapatnam’s position as a hub for emerging technologies, alongside its existing BPO/KPO and core IT companies.
Infosys has the potential to inspire its peers in the IT industry to consider Visakhapatnam as the ideal IT destination and contribute to the growth of the local ecosystem.
The chief minister also opened Eugia Steriles Pvt Ltd that was developed with an investment of Rs 500 crore. This unit at Pharma City created 700 jobs, producing 300 million general injectable units per year.
The chief minister also opened Laurus Labs, a SEZ Atchutapuram developed with an investment of Rs 440 crore and created 500 jobs. Laurus Synthetics worth Rs 191 crore created 300 jobs. The foundation stone for Laurus Labs worth Rs 240 crore, which can create 400 jobs, has also been laid.
