Abdul Kalam's memorial will be inaugurated on Thursday by PM Modi
On July 27, exactly two years after the missile man of India APJ Abdul Kalam died, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a memorial in the former president's grave site in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
The memorial will reflect India's diversity and various cultures and will pay homage to Kalam's life, displaying replicas of rockets and missiles that the late ace scientist worked on. "The elevation in the front resembles the India Gate," Kalam's grand nephew Saleem says.
"He worked in ISRO where he (helped develop) the SLV 3 and that too is in display. Inside, the DRDO Agni missile is displayed," Saleem added. "There is a lot that the people can learn from here."
The
inauguration will take place at 11 am on July 27 which will be followed by PM Modi holding a public meeting. Several chief ministers, governors, the Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and the Indian Space Research Organisation chairman, among other dignitaries are also expected to be present at the inauguration.
The July 27 ceremony will inaugurate the first phase of the memorial. The second phase is expected to be complete within the next two years. "The second phase of the memorial... will have a library, planetarium and auditorium," Salem said.
A temple tourist destination in Tamil Nadu, Rameswaram is the birthplace of the Kalam. The town will become a fortress with more than 10,000 security personnel expected to descend on the island region.
