Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat and President Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Madhulika Rawat arrived in Port Blair on a three-day visit to Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) yesterday.
On arrival at INS Utkrosh, General Bipin Rawat was received by Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN). Thereafter, the Army Chief left for Cellular Jail for wreath laying ceremony at Amar Jyoti. The Army Chief, accompanied by AWWA President, also called on Lt Governor Andaman & Nicobar Islands Admiral DK Joshi.
Later, at Headquarters of Andaman and Nicobar Command, General Rawat was given an
overview on joint services and strategic aspects of the Andaman & Nicobar Command and was briefed on the Army Component’s operational preparedness and amphibious capabilities in the Islands.
The Army Chief will visit the newly raised Territorial Army Battalion at Campbell Bay and Air Force Station Car Nicobar. At both the places he will interact with troops and officers. The General will also inspect Military Station Birchgunj and review its infrastructure and operational areas. He will also be briefed on Naval operations at Naval wharf and familiarized with ANC’s area of operations, during his visit.
