Assam govt seeks 600 companies of armed forces for upcoming assembly polls

Assam government has sought 600 companies of armed forces from the Centre for deployment during upcoming assembly polls in the state. This was disclosed by Assam Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) SN Singh.

He, however, said that the Election Commission will take a final call on whether to deploy central



forces or state police or both during the polls. Mr Singh said, about 24 thousand 800 polling booths will be set up across the state to conduct polls. He said operation to seize illegal arms have been intensified by security forces ahead of the elections. Polling will be held this year in Assam for 126 assembly seats
