Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said the government would construct a mosque, temple and Church on the premises of proposed new secretariat complex at the government cost. He said foundation stone for the religious structures would be laid after legislative assembly and council sessions and construction would be started immediately. He assured the construction would be completed on a fast manner.
Delegation of various Muslim religious elders led by home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi met the chief minister on the demolition of a mosque in the old secretariat complex and construction of new mosque on Saturday.
The chief minister said one temple and two mosques, which were damaged while demolishing the old secretarial buildings would be constructed with all the facilities.
The State government will construct the temple in an area of 1,500 sq.feet, and hand it over to the Endowments department after its construction. Similarly, two mosques of each 750 sq.feet (total 1,500 sq.feet) including the Imam’s quarters will be constructed in their existing location and will be handed over to the Wakf Board after completing their construction. Following a request from the employees belonging to the Christian community, the government also decided to construct a church on the premises.
“Telangana State will treat all religions equally and will continue to practice religious tolerance. The State is a symbol of Ganga Jamuna Tehjeeb. Hence, new places of worship are constructed in the new secretariat for all the religions,” the Chief Minister
declared.
Further, Chandrashekhar Rao assured to expedite the construction of Anees-ul-Gurbah, the institution which gives shelter to the orphaned Muslim children and gives them education. About 80 per cent of the construction works, have been completed so far and funds amounting to Rs 18 crore will be released for speedy completion of the remaining works. He also assured to put the works for construction of the proposed Islamic Centre on the fast track, as they got delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chief Minister also observed the need for burial places for the Muslim community in Hyderabad city and promised to develop them at different places in total 150-200 acres spread across the city. He stated that the District Collectors of Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri have been instructed to identify necessary land in this regard. In the wake of damages caused to Ashurkhana at Narayanpet due to road widening, he instructed the District Collector concerned to identify required land and construct the Ashurkhana.
Chandrashekhar Rao pointed out that Urdu has been recognised as the second official language in Telangana State. He has decided to appoint an Urdu expert as the vice-chairman of the State Official Language Committee and conduct necessary programmes for protection and development of Urdu in the State.
