At least 31 people died and 11 including eight children injured in lightning, thunderstorm and rain-related incidents in different parts of Bihar. Most of the dead were farmers who were on the fields, when the tragedy struck.

Maximum 13 people were killed in Araria, Purnea, Supaul and Saharsa districts of the state. 18 died in eight other districts including Nawada, Jamui, Begusarai and Sheikhpura. Several trees and electric polls were uprooted and supply of



electricity disrupted in several parts of the state due to thunderstorm.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced an ex gratia of four lakh rupees to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives.

Mr Kumar ordered free treatment to injured people. The Chief Minister appealed to people of the state to be vigilant and remain in doors during lightning.
