India is witnessing the wettest August this year in more than four decades. The country's rainfall so far is 296.2 millimetres. Rainfall during the month has been 25 percent surplus till now, the highest deviation from normal in 44



years.

IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rains till the month end. According to Met department data, the country last witnessed a higher monsoon surplus in August in the year 1976.
