In Uttar Pradesh, Bird Flu has killed several birds at Kanpur Zoo and laboratory tests have confirmed Avian Flu as the cause of death. Dr Sunil Choudhary, Director of Kanpur Zoological Park said that a first case of bird flu was detected at the Zoo yesterday.
The zoo administration had sent the swab samples of two of Red Jungle Fowl birds that were found dead on Tuesday last to the National Institute of High Security Animal Disease in Bhopal for confirmation regarding avian influenza. The lab report that came yesterday evening, confirmed bird flu in the dead birds . Following which the zoo campus has been sealed and
made out of bounds for the visitors with immediate effect to contain the spread of the disease outside the campus. The zoo authorities have taken steps to protect more zoo birds from coming into contact with hundreds of migratory birds that make the zoo their temporary abode during winters.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already issued instructions to keep in wake of avian influenza in the state. He has asked to be very careful regarding the coming Magh Mela at Sangam of Prayagraj where thousands of migratory birds reach every year. Officials have been asked to aware devotees there not to feed these birds and keep away.
