Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party and Member of Parliament Azam Khan has been booked under charges of sedition for his controversial comments about the Indian Army.
The charges were filed when Anil Pandey, a member of the equally controversial right-wing Hindu groups Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, took offence to the statement and approached the police.
Azam Khan, in a briefing on the 28th of June, had stated that the soldiers
were being mutilated, but the ones who mutilated them had no problems with the soldiers' arms, legs or even head, but their privates, and stated that the chopping off of the privates of soldiers was a statement, one that India must be ashamed of.
Khan has been booked under sections 124A (sedition), 131 (Abetting mutiny, or attempting to seduce a soldier, sailor or airman from his duty) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
