The Mumbai crime branch has arrested 16th accused in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique last month. The accused, Gaurav Vilas Apune, 23, was promised a substantial sum for successfully carrying out the shooting but backed out later, police sources said.
Apune, a daily wager, was produced in a Mumbai court on Wednesday. An investigation revealed that he had full knowledge of the intended target and was involved in the conspiracy of the attack, with the promise of substantial consideration from the absconding
accused masterminds.
He was also provided with weapon-handling training and shooting training and was allegedly roped in for the crime by the masterminds, Shubham Lonkar and Zeeshan Akhtar, who are also wanted in the case.
According to police sources, Apune was promised a substantial sum for successfully carrying out the shooting, but he and other members of the module later backed out.
After hearing the prosecution's arguments, the court remanded Apune to police custody till November 13.
