Chennai: A depression that formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal on Wednesday has now turned into a cyclone.

As per reports, Cyclone Ockhi lay centered 170 km southeast of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu Thursday morning. Heavy rains have already started lashing the coastal areas of the state.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that “rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls are very likely over Lakshadweep area during the next 48 hours.”
