West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly as the brand ambassador for the state while speaking at a business summit.
With top industrialists present at the event, Mamata Banerjee spoke about a series of steps that the state aimed to take in order to boost its economy. These included doubling exports, modernising logistics, and fostering renewable energy manufacturing.
Addressing a gathering that included business magnates like Mukesh Ambani, Sanjeev Goenka, and Rishad Premji, Mamata Banerjee outlined the creation of four new industrial corridors.
These corridors will connect key areas across the state, including Dankuni-Kalyani, Tajpur port-Raghunathpur, Dankuni-Jhargram, and Durgapur to Cooch Behar in North Bengal.
Lashing out at the BJP-ruled Union government, she said, "I am sorry to say that the state is not getting any financial
support from the Centre. We are not getting our share of GST and wages under MGNREGA scheme have been stopped."
"But I am in favour of peace and happiness. Some people ask me which 'ism' do I follow. I tell them that I am neither in favour of Rightism nor Leftism. I believe in humanism," she said.
Notably, Reliance Industries Chairperson Mukesh Ambani announced an investment of Rs 20,000 crore in West Bengal over the next three years. This investment will focus on digital solutions, retail expansion, and bio-energy.
Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji also spoke at the event, praising the state's policy for expansion of IT industries.
Rama Prasad Goenka Group's Sanjeev Goenka told the gathering that his firm has invested Rs 25,000 crore in the state over the last few years as "decision making has been quick and efficient" and that the era of "go slows, strikes and unrest are of the past... the CM wants business".
