In Madhya Pradesh, a Bhopal court has awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to a member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for an attack on a police team in Ratlam district in 2011. 

Additional District Judge Girish Dixit awarded the sentence to Farhat after convicting him under section 307 of



the Indian Penal Code, attempt to murder and the Arms Act.

Police had arrested the accused, along with another SIMI activist, during a raid in Ratlam on 3rd June, 2011, for allegedly murdering a police constable. The other activist escaped and was later killed in an encounter.
