Bihar Cabinet has approved a proposal to start caste-based headcount in the state. This decision was taken at a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

After the meeting, Chief secretary Amir Subhani informed the media that the cabinet has approved Rs.500 crores from the contingency fund for the caste-based census. Mr Subhani said the Bihar government will conduct the caste-based census from its own resources.

He also said Census will be conducted by the general administration department at the state level. District magistrates will be nodal officers and engage employees in their districts as enumerators.

The economic status of families would also be studied during the census for which the entire exercise would be completed by February next year. The progress of the census will be apprised from time to time to the



leaders of various parties in the Vidhan Sabha.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Jaiswal, state president of BJP, demanded Rohingyas and Bangladeshis staying in the border areas should be identified and excluded from the headcount.

Bihar government will conduct caste-based census using its own resources. District magistrates will be nodal officers and engage employees in their districts as enumerators.

The economic status of families would also be studied during the census and the entire exercise would be completed by February next year. Vidhan Sabha will be informed about the progress of the census periodically.

Meanwhile, state BJP president  Sanjay Jaiswal, demanded Rohingyas and Bangladeshis staying in the border areas should be identified and excluded from the headcount.
