In Bihar, the death toll in hooch tragedy in Saran district has risen to 53 as 13 more people have died. Maximum 24 deaths have been reported from Masrakh block, while remaining 27 casualties have been reported from Isuapur, Amnaur, and Marhaura areas of the district. 

The casualties are likely to rise as 12 more people are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals with five of them being in serious condition. Some people have also lost their eyesight. Saran District



Magistrate Rajesh Meena said four suppliers including 123 persons have been arrested so far.

The Bihar government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. The ASP of Sonepur Anjani Kumar will lead the team. The team has been instructed to inquire into all aspects of hooch tragedy. The SHO and Choukidar of Masrakah police station of Saran district have been suspended with immediate effect for dereliction of duties.
