Bihar government has decided to increase the quota of reservation in government services for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Extremely Backward Castes (EBCs) and Backward Caste (BCs) to 65 percent in the state.
The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar this evening. The decision was taken in view of the increased population of these categories in the state which has been reflected in Caste Based Survey 2022.
After the consent of the Governor, the bill regarding this will be introduced in the State Assembly. Presently the quota for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Extremely Backward Castes (EBCs) and Backward Caste (BCs) categories is 50
percent.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister stated in the State Assembly that the government will bring a legislative bill to raise the bar of reservation in the state.
BJP has supported the decision to increase the quota for SCs, STs, Extremely Backward Castes (EBCs), and Backward Castes (BCs) in the state to 65 percent.
State BJP Chief, Samrat Choudhary said in Patna the party has decided to support the decision of the Nitish Kumar-led government to raise the limit of reservation from 50 percent to 65. Mr. Choudhary said, that in many states, the BJP-led government had already increased the reservation for the betterment of the weaker sections of the society.
