Bihar government has reinforced liquor ban in the state. This decision was taken in a special cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar yesterday.
Later, Mr. Kumar said, the Bihar Excise and Prohibition Act 2016 has come in-force from today and total liquor ban will continue in the state. He said, after imposition of ban on liquor in the state financial condition of the people has been strengthened and behavioural social change across the state is being seen. Offences under new act have
been made non-bailable.
Principal Additional Advocate General Lalit Kishore told that the Patna High Court order has termed only one section of the previous Act ultra vires. It does not say anything about the revised Act passed by both Houses of the state legislature. He made it clear that the high court order will not impact the new Act. It may be noted that the Patna High court had on Friday struck down the state’s Prohibition of Liquor Act which banned the consumption of Indian Made Foreign Liquor.
