After a high-stakes contest in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP and the Congress are ready to lock horns again in the Madhya Pradesh bypoll.
A by-election will be held in Amarwara on July 10.
After winning the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat, the BJP aims to capture this assembly seat as well, while Congress and Kamal Nath are in the mood to avenge their Lok Sabha defeat. In the recent Lok Sabha polls, BJP candidate Banty Vivek Sahu defeated former Chhindwara MP and Congress candidate Nakul Nath by a margin of 1.13 lakh
votes.
This by-election has become a matter of prestige for both the BJP and Congress. Despite winning 164 seats in the assembly elections last year, the BJP tasted defeat in all 7 seats in Chhindwara district, including the Amarwara assembly seat, where Congress' Kamlesh Shah emerged victorious.
Earlier, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Kamlesh Shah joined the BJP, which came as a major blow to Congress. Accepting the resignation, the assembly speaker declared the Amarwara seat vacant, leading to the by-election.
