Himachal chief minister Jai Ram Thakur tendered his resignation on Thursday. He noted there were 'issues' that changed the direction of results.
"I have handed over my resignation to the Governor. Will never stop working for the development of people. We need to analyse things. There were some issues that changed the direction of the results. I will go to Delhi if they call us," Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur.
The decision came simultaneously with the Congress bagging 40 seats in the hill state. Himachal Pradesh has maintained the custom of changing its government every five years. A party needs to secure 35 seats to form a
government there and the BJP has managed to secure 25 seats in Himachal. Failing to garner the requisite figures, the BJP-led government was compelled to step down on Thursday.
Accepting the public's decision, CM Thakur said that he would need to analyse what went wrong. Notably, Thakur won his Siraj seat in the election.
Taking to Twitter, Thakur wrote, "We accept the mandate with humility. Special thanks to the respected Prime Minister and the central government for their valuable cooperation in the last five years. Thanks for the five years given by the people of the state for service. We will always be ready for the all-round development of Himachal."
