New Delhi: BJP leader and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal has said that the issue of foreign funding to a News-portal is very serious and it raises serious questions about those who claim to speak about democracy and free press.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he hit out at the INDIA bloc of opposition parties and said that the New York Times report on Chinese funding to a media portal has exposed them. He said, the opposition had accused the government of suppressing the media following the Enforcement Directorate’s action against the news portal.

Mr

Goyal said, it has now come to light that under the garb of media, the portal targeted Indian security and was part of an ecosystem to mislead people with propaganda.

MP Sudhanshu Trivedi had also raised the issue in Rajya Sabha and questioned the Congress for its alleged links with the portal.

The NYT investigation has claimed that a wealthy US businessman-activist behind various influence campaigns across the world has been receiving funding from China and pushing Chinese propaganda under the garb of different causes.
