Manik Saha, the incumbent Tripura chief minister, has been named by the state BJP Legislative party to serve his second term as CM, PTI quoted a BJP official.

After being named as legislative party leader, Manik Saha met Tripura Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya to stake claim to form the government.

Saha's selection to serve as Tripura CM for the second time was unanimously supported by all the MLAs.

Manik Saha was made Tripura CM last year. He replaced the then CM Biplab Kumar Deb.

According to reports, the swearing-in of the new chief minister will be



held on March 8.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

The BJP won 32 seats of the 60-member Assembly while its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) - won one seat in the recently concluded elections.

Party sources said, Sarma also had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Sunday over the composition of the cabinet and its leader to ensure a smooth transition.

BJP national president JP Nadda and Chief Ministers of several BJP-ruled states are expected to also join the swearing-in ceremony.
