New Delhi: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was arrested on the charge of sharing a morphed picture of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The worker was identified as Babuya Ghosh. He has not only shared the image of these two leaders on his Facebook wall but also made derogatory remarks about the Bengal CM.
Babuya Ghosh, a district level BJP worker, has been seen with several BJP leaders including BJP state President Dilip Ghosh. As per reports, he has written on the wall, “If a guy doesn’t get married on time, he may get mad. But people of West Bengal are now understanding what happens when a girl doesn’t get married on time.”
As soon as he shared the image on his wall, some locals complained about him.
On the basis of the complaint, police started a probe and arrested him. His mobile has been seized.
According to reports, Bengal police is looking to crack down on profiles who share pictures which are in bad taste. Already some of those profiles have been identified.
The incident brought back memories of the arrest of Jadavpur University professor who was arrested in 2012 for circulating a cartoon of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the then Railway Minister Mukul Roy and his predecessor Dinesh Trivedi. The 2012 cartoon had shown the chief minister and the railway minister exchanging dialogues from popular Bengali film ‘Sonar Kella’, a detective thriller by Satyajit Ray, which alluded to the replacement of Trivedi by Roy as Railway Minister.
