Mumbai: Bombay High Court has asked Maharashtra Government to consider issuing a vaccination card to allow fully inoculated people to travel in local trains. Stating that it is a matter of livelihood of poor people who cannot afford to spend too much on travel, a bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni suggested that the state must form a special committee to look into commuters’ woes.
Stating that one cannot compare Mumbai to other metro cities, the court said Maharashtra government must constitute an expert administrative body to look into citizens’ grievances on issues like public transport, and other issues so that citizens are not forced to approach the court for
everything.
The bench was hearing a bunch of public interest litigations seeking permission for lawyers, judicial clerks and staff, journalists, and other fully vaccinated people to travel in local trains in Mumbai.
Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, who appeared for the Maharashtra government, informed the court that the state will soon issue a letter to railway authorities to permit lawyers and registered judicial officers to use local train services.
Adjourning the hearing till 12th August, the court has directed Maharashtra government to file an affidavit about the proposed plan for permitting fully vaccinated citizens to use local trains in the city.
