Mumbai: Bombay High Court has granted the conditional permission to the Muslim community for carrying out Muharram procession.

A Division Bench of Justices K. K. Tated and P. K. Chavan said, only fully vaccinated people can take part in the procession that has to be limited to seven trucks carrying 15 persons each.

During a hearing yesterday, the court said, compliance with COVID-19 protocol will be a must.

Allowing five Taziyas, the court said, only 25 people will be

allowed to go inside the cemetery.

The order was passed on a petition filed by NGO All India Idara Tahfaz-e-Hussainiyat that sought permission from the court to take out processions and perform rituals during Muharram.

While the Maharashtra Government had opposed the petition, the court noted that significant relaxations in lockdown rules have already been given and hence allowing a conditional procession should not be a cause of worry.
