Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Friday. With this, the Budget Session of Parliament comes to an end which commenced on 31st January of this year.

In his valedictory address in Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla highlighted that the House registered 118 percent productivity during the Budget Session. He said the Lower House passed 16 bills during the session.

Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Rajya Sabha held over 17 hours of discussion on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which is the longest in the history. He said the Lok Sabha also held around 14 hours of discussion on the Bill. He objected to the remarks of Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi that the Bill was bulldozed in Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla termed the comments unfortunate, saying that the legislation was passed following all the rules and procedures. Mr. Birla said such remarks by an MP are against Parliamentary decorum.

In the morning, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till Noon following a ruckus created by the opposition parties over the issue of reciprocal tariff imposed by the US on India. As soon as the House met for the day, Congress, DMK and others started sloganeering, and



some members trooped into the well over the issue. On the other hand, treasury bench members demanded an apology from Sonia Gandhi over her comments that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is an assault on the Constitution. Amid the ruckus, Speaker Om Birla tried to take up the Question Hour but in vain. Later, he adjourned the House till Noon.

In the Rajya Sabha when the House reassembled after the second adjournment at 1 PM, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House sine die. In his valedictory address, the Chairman said the House witnessed 119 percent productivity. He said the House held an unprecedented sitting for the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill, which is the longest in the history of the House.

Earlier, the House witnessed two adjournments. Treasury bench members created an uproar in the Upper House on the issue of teacher recruitment in West Bengal. When the House assembled for the day, Laxmikant Bajpayee of the BJP cited the Supreme Court decision to uphold the dismissal of 25 thousand teachers in West Bengal. He alleged that during the recruitment drive for the teachers, reservation policy and other norms were not followed. TMC MP tried to counter him.
