The two-day BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Working Group meeting on Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency began here on Monday in Visakhapatnam.
Delegates from the BRICS countries and Union and State government officials attended the meet. After welcoming the delegates, Additional Secretary BP Pandey said after the launch of the energy-efficient lighting programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the city of Visakhapatnam was among the first cities to initiate its effective role. The day-long meeting discussed the experiences and best practices among BRICS countries.
The BRICS group comprises developing countries
where the energy demand is expected to be large when compared to the developed countries. Keeping this energy demand scenario of BRICS nations in view, the countries have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency.
The MOU intends to pursue their energy cooperation through joint research and technology projects, technology transfer, conferences, lectures and seminars. It also includes specific common projects, applicable methods and instruments of energy saving promotion and energy efficiency increase in the BRICS economies.
The working group meeting will conclude on Tuesday.
