The BSP workers called off their agitation in Lucknow yesterday afternoon after police promised to arrest Dayashankar Singh within next 36 hours. The Party workers had staged a fierce protest against former Uttar Pradesh BJP vice-president Dayashankar Singh for his abusive remarks against their party Chief Mayawati. Lucknow District Magistrate Raj Shekhar met the party workers and leaders and told them the police were looking for Singh after an FIR was lodged against him at the Hazratganj police station. After a categorical
and time-bound assurance to them by authorities, BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui said the agitation was being called off. A police team was sent to Dayashankar Singh’s house but he was not found there.
In a related development, the State Women's Commission Chief Zarina Usmani has issued notice to Lucknow district administration in the matter asking for a report from it. She also severely condemned the abusive remarks of Dayashankar Singh terming it to be most unfortunate and against the dignity of women.
