The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced by-elections for four assembly seats in Punjab, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha, and Barnala.
Divulging the details, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C stated that, as per the schedule, the notification will be issued on the 18th of October. The last date for filing nominations will be on the 25th of October and the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on the 28th of October, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be the 30th of October.
Mr Sibin C informed that voting will take place on the 13th of November, and the counting of votes and
announcement of results will be held on the 23rd of November.
He further stated that with the announcement of the by-elections, the election code of conduct has come into force in the districts Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala, where these constituencies are located. The code of conduct will remain in force until the completion of the election process on the 25th of November.
Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C mentioned that, as of 10th October 2024, the total number of voters in the four constituencies is 6,96,316 who will vote in a total of 831 polling stations.
