The situation in the Seelampur area of the national capital, where a violent protest erupted yesterday afternoon against the Citizenship Amendment Act, is under control.
Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, Alok Kumar told media that police is reaching out to elder persons in the area to maintain peace. He clarified that no bullet has been fired and only tear gas shells were used to disperse the crowd.
He said some police personnel sustained injuries, while two buses and some bikes were damaged during the protest.
Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has appealed to the people to maintain peace and not get involved in any kind of violence. He asked
them to inform the Delhi Police about miscreants.
The LG added that violence is not only illegal but also inhuman, and people should express their voice through peaceful democratic means.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also has appealed to all Delhiites to maintain peace.
He said violence of any kind cannot be tolerated in a civilized society, adding that nothing can be achieved through it.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik met Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla in New Delhi.
During the meeting, Mr Bhalla took stock of the law and order situation in the national capital.
